Holy Stitch! is a 16 year old, San Francisco based, social venture that combines a sewing factory with a youth development program in order to educate, empower, and employ the youtH. Our core product offering is the production of high-quality denim jeans, a skill that has its roots in the city. We believe that by teaching the art and craft of sewing jeans, we can provide our students with valuable skills and knowledge that can be applied to a wide range of careers in the fashion and manufacturing industries.

In addition to the production of jeans, Holy Stitch! will also offer a variety of other products and services to support our mission of educating, empowering, and employing the youth of San Francisco. These include:

- Education and Employment Programs: Holy Stitch! will provide a range of education and employment programs for young people, including vocational training in sewing and manufacturing, as well as classes in business and entrepreneurship. These programs will be designed to give students the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the fashion and manufacturing industries, as well as to start their own businesses.

- Custom Denim Services: Holy Stitch! will offer custom denim services to customers looking for a one-of-a-kind pair of jeans or jackets. These services will include everything from custom fits and styles to personalized embroidery and embellishments.

- Retail Sales: Holy Stitch! will sell a variety of denim-related products, including jeans, denim jackets, and accessories. These products will be made using only the highest-quality denim and will be sold at our retail store, as well as online.

Course Description:

This course is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to design and construct high-quality denim garments. Students will learn about industry trends and history, personal branding, design and sourcing, construction techniques, and sustainability in the fashion industry. Through lectures, sewing classes, and hands-on projects, students will develop a comprehensive understanding of the denim industry and the techniques required to succeed in it.

Course Goals:

  • Understand the denim industry and its history, including the industry cycle from seed to retail and current and emerging trends
  • Develop design skills, including principles of design, color theory, and material sourcing
  • Learn pattern making and cutting techniques, including block creation and grading
  • Explore a range of construction techniques, including the use of single needle, overlock, and serger machines, and creating keyhole and bartack details
  • Understand customization and quality control, including the ability to take apart and reconstruct a pair of jeans and create unique details and finishes
  • Learn about digital tools and sustainability in the fashion industry, including design software and sustainability in denim production
  • Develop the skills necessary to sell and showcase work, including creating a personal brand, selling to customers, and effectively presenting and receiving feedback on work

Course Outcomes:

  • Design and construct a complete pair of jeans or a collection of denim garments using a variety of tools and techniques
  • Source materials and create a personal brand that reflects their unique aesthetic and values
  • Use digital tools and techniques to design and communicate work effectively
  • Understand industry trends and sustainability in denim production, including the environmental and social impacts of their work
  • Sell and showcase work effectively, including presenting work to potential customers and receiving and incorporating feedback
  • Critique and assess the quality and improvement areas of their own work and the work of others

To get started with the Holy Stitch Academy's Discord server, you will first need to download the Discord app. You can download it for free from the App Store (for iOS devices) or Google Play (for Android devices).

Step 2: Create a Discord Account

Once you have downloaded the Discord app, open it and create an account. You will need to provide your email address and create a password.

Step 3: Join the Holy Stitch Academy Discord Server

To join the Holy Stitch Academy Discord server, click on the "Server Invite" link provided to you. This will take you to the server where you can begin to explore all the resources and features available to you.

Step 4: Choose Your Package:

When you join the server, you'll be able to see only certain channels, depending on the student package you've enrolled in. You can upgrade or change your package at any time.

Step 5: Explore the Channels

Once you are in the Holy Stitch Academy Discord server, you will see several channels on the left side of the screen. These channels are designed to help you access all the resources and information you need to succeed in our mentorship program.

  • The #portal-start here provides a brief overview of the server and how to use it.
  • The #sewing-patterns channel provides access to all the sewing patterns you will need for the classes, your collection and mentorship program. (Must join the Sewing Pattern Club if not fully enrolled)
  • The #digital-tools channel provides access to digital tools that will help you with your projects. (Must join the Graphics Club if not fully enrolled)
  • The #meeting-room channel is where all the video calls and classes will be held.
  • The #academy-chat is a place where you can chat with other students and mentors, and get help and support with your projects.

With access to sewing patterns, digital tools, video calls, and classes all in one spot, you will find it much easier to stay organized and focused on your goals. Our community of students and mentors is here to support you every step of the way, so don't hesitate to reach out for help or advice.

Every few days and at least every week we drop new tools, effects vector packs and other digital tools to help you get your brand up, going or bigger. We purchase the bundles and get them to you at a fraction of the cost. Usually Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Clo3D related tools. 

SEWING PATTERN CLUB

Rather than search all over and hope for a decent sewing pattern, just join the club where we drop new patterns each week in all sizes from the head down meaning there are hat patterns, bag patterns, jacket patterns, t shirt patterns and much much more all there for the taking at the cost of one pattern!

Ok-Ok we are not for the Singer Heavy Duty Sewing Machine for sew many reasons but we are not going to leave you out of the crew + Academy. We have a special section and seat for you.
